Special Notice: 2022 Shanghai University of Sport (SUS) Chinese Government Scholarship-Master Program (Type B)

In response to the latest notice of the China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as “CSC”), SUS hereby makes the following adjustments to matters regarding the application for the Chinese Government Scholarship-Master Program (Type B) for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Program Introduction

The Chinese Government Scholarship-Master Program (Type B) is designed to finance the study of talented international students in China that are directly selected and recommended by designated Chinese universities. An applicant shall file an application with Chinese universities undertaking this program.

Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) - University Program (Scholarship Type B; SUS Agency Number: 10277;)

Master programs: 3 years

Doctoral programs: 3 years

Sponsoring category: Master and doctoral candidates only

Duration: Subject to the period of study specified in the admission letter only

Admission starts: September 2022

Language of instruction: Chinese

Application Period

From December 30, 2021 to April 2, 2022 23:59 (CST)

Scholarship Coverage

Subject to the current CGS standards. Please visit the website ( for further information.

1. Exemption from tuition fees within the program duration

2. Accommodation fees: SUS offers free dormitories for students following regular on-campus accommodation. As for students opt for off-campus accommodation, SUS offers monthly accommodation subsidies of CNY 700/month for master students and CNY 1,000/month for doctoral students

3. Free comprehensive medical insurance of CNY 800/person/year

4. Living stipends: CNY 3,000/month for master students, CNY 3,500/month for doctoral students


l An applicant must be a citizen of a country other than the PRC, in good health both mentally and physically, and equipped with the academic background and scientific research ability required by the program.

l Overseas students who are not studying in China, or outstanding fresh undergraduate/master graduates in China can also file an application (for master/doctoral programs only).  

l Applicants for master/doctoral programs shall be under the age of 30/35.

l Applicants for master/doctoral programs shall be holders of a bachelor’s/master’s degree.

l Chinese language proficiency should reach level 5 or above as rated by Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages (CLPS) (applicant shall provide an HSK score report proving HSK Level 5 (score≥200) or HSK Level 6 (score≥180) within two years of validity); excellent candidates with Chinese language proficiency reaching HSK Level 4 (score≥180) are allowed to apply for one-year Chinese tutoring, and start major study upon passing the HSK Level 5 test (score≥200). Those who have obtained degrees from higher education institutions in China with Chinese as the language of instruction need not to provide HSK certificates.

l The previous GPA shall not be lower than 3.0; or the average score of subjects shall not be lower than 75.

l No criminal record.

l Able to accept flexible teaching forms (online or classroom), and be willing to abide by national and school pandemic prevention and control regulations.

Application & Approval Process

Step 1: Applicants need to visit “SUS-Online Application & Admission System for International Students” before 23:59 on April 2 to register and fill in the application form, upload the required application documents (in digital form), submit the application, and pay the application fee.

Please write your passport name and “application fee” while transferring. (The application is regarded as valid only after paying the application fee)

Step 2: Before April 10, SUS will complete the preliminary review of documents, organize online major interviews and scholarship review, decide on the list of candidates for the program, and send the Pre-admission Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship-Master Program. Note: SUS will only send pre-admission letters to nominated candidates by email ( Applicants need to pay close attention to check the email address provided at registration.

Step 3: Before April 15, the nominated candidates need to visit “Chinese Government Scholarship” (visit, and click “Scholarship Application for Students” icon to enter), fill in the information online and submit the required documents. Be sure to read the “Application Process” (see Attachments) carefully and fill in the blanks, select the application Type B, and SUS Agency Number is 10277.

Note: The application documents must include the Pre-admission Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship-Master Program sent by SUS. Candidates who fail to complete the online application in due time shall be disqualified from the candidacy.

Step 4: In the principle of “individual application - school recommendation - expert review - selective admission”, CSC organizes experts to conduct a final review of the candidates’ academic performance, comprehensive quality, development potential, and select the excellent candidates for admission.

Note: Candidates who have not been admitted to the master scholarship program may continue to apply for other SUS scholarship programs or self-funded programs.

Application Documents (In case the documents are incomplete, it shall be deemed as a waiver of the application)

l One photocopy of your valid passport.

l One photocopy of your diploma and degree certificate (a notarized Chinese or English translation is required if the original version is in other languages). For fresh graduates, a certification of expected graduation is required).

l One photocopy of your transcript of academic records during your bachelor’s/master’s study (a notarized Chinese or English translation is required if the original version is in other languages).

l Two photocopies of HSK certificate or two original copies of the proof of equivalent language proficiency within two years of validity for those who are applying for Chinese-taught programs.

l Study plan or research proposal written in Chinese or English.

l A CV written in Chinese, which should include your education and work experiences, research results and a study plan.

l Two recommendation letters in Chinese or English from two professors or associate professors.

l Acceptance Letter from expected supervisor professor (if available). Check the SUS Professors lists of Master/Doctoral degree at

l Preliminary scientific research results/academic papers (if any).

l A copy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (within 6 months of validity).

l A video of self-introduction in Chinese and English within 3 minutes with the format of MP4.

l No criminal record or commitment letter of no criminal record.

l A financial guarantee statement or certificate of bank saving with the amount of cash not less than RMB 100 thousand.

l A photocopy or scanned copy of the payment record for the application fee of 80 USD or 500 RMB.

The major name with* is open to master/doctoral applicants as well.


1. CGS recipients shall not be holding any other scholarship (excluding one-time incentives) provided by the Chinese Government or the admitted institutions at the same time. Upon identification, their CGS qualifications shall be cancelled and the received scholarships must be refunded. Those who deliberately conceal the sponsorship shall be disqualified and prohibited from applying for the CGS within three years.

2. Scholarship recipients of this program shall not change their admission institution, study major and study period after coming to China.

3. The scholarship qualifications of those who cannot study in China in due course of the admission due to personal reasons shall not be reserved.

4. All application documents must be originals prepared for inspection at the time of admission. Those who provide false documents shall be disqualified from the scholarship.

5. Scholarship recipients must accept the annual scholarship review in accordance with the regulations. Those who fail to pass the review shall be suspended or cancelled from the scholarship.
