DuringSeptember 12-13, FISU Director-GeneralPaulo Ferreira, along with FISUsquashTechnicalCommitteeChairman Zena Wooldrige, paid a two-day visit to Shanghai University of Sport (SUS). Shi Zhihao, vice president of Shanghai University of Sport, Sun Wei, vice minister of the International Department of China University Sports Association, and Shao Bin, director of SUSTrainingandCompetition Department, met with two FISU officials. Shi Zhihao, on behalf of the school, extended a warm welcome to the officials .
On September 13th, briefing on the preparations for the 2020 World University Squash Championships was held at SUS Sports Exchange Center. First, general report of the preparation work was carried out, then the detailson each department’s related plan and preparation was discussed. After 3.5 hours of exchange, the two sides reached a preliminary consensus on the preparations for the event, and established a good channel of communication. Both sides expressed their confidence and expectation for the successful holding of the 2020 World University Squash Championship in our school.
After the meeting, the delegation officials, accompanied by the relevant personnel of the squash preparation team, visited the campus, and inspected the squash court, sports complex, student dormitory, canteen and other venues and facilities to be used for the event.
According to the meeting, the 11th World Univeristy Squash Championships will be held at Shanghai University of Sport in July 2020. At present, the Logo design of the event has been examined by the International University Sports Federation, and the Organizing Committee and the Preparation Committee have also been set up.The list of the Organizing Committee of the Competition is in the process of being approved by Shanghai Municipal Government. Service regarding volunteer distribution, medical , dope control, security and food safetyhave been deployed. The agenda of the opening and closing ceremony has been drafted, and media publicity department has also formulated a moderately complete plan.
Shanghai University of Sport has always focused on the development of squash. In 2017, our students won four gold and two silver medals in the first National College Squash Championships. In 2018, at the 10th World UniversitySquash Championships held in Birmingham, England, a number of students played on behalf of the Chinese squash team. On August 30 this year, the Shanghai Squash Association, jointly sponsored by our school and Shanghai Hanye Sports Development Co., Ltd., was formally established and the first general meeting of its members was held in our school.
After strict examination and approval by the International University Sports Federation and the support of China University Sports Association, Shanghai Education Committee, Shanghai University Sports Association, we have successfully won the right to host the 2020 World University Squash Championship.
